Our fees

NHS patients

If you are an NHS patient, including Choose and Book, there will be nothing for you to pay.

Pay for yourself

If you are paying for your operation yourself and have paid the Grosvenor Nuffield Hospital in full, then you should not expect to receive a separate bill for anaesthesia services.

Private medical insurance

If you have private medical insurance, it is important to understand the details and extent of your cover. Please be aware that not all insurance companies will cover the full cost of your anaesthetic care, so you may be left with an excess or shortfall to pay to us.

The search tool below allows you to look up an estimated anaesthetic fee.  You will need the code for your operation, or you can search by entering a description of the operation, such as “total hip replacement”.  If the detail of your operation changes, for example if you agree with the surgeon that an additional or different procedure will be done, then the anaesthetic fee is likely to change.

You will normally also receive a formal quote from us for your anaesthetic fee in advance of your surgery. We advise you to discuss the quote with your insurer, to check if you will be liable to pay a shortfall.

If any excess or shortfall payment is required, you will be contacted after your surgery by Medserv (our billing partner) who will advise you further on how to make your payment to us.

Chester Anaesthetics does not require you to make any payments directly to us before your surgery.

If you have not yet received a quote, please contact our Practice Manager immediately on 01244 267095 or at chester.anaes@btinternet.com.

Finding out the name of your anaesthetist

You may be asked by your insurer to find out the name of your anaesthetist in order to check that he or she is recognised by them.

All of our anaesthetists work as consultant anaesthetists in the NHS and are recognised as specialists by the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Anaesthetists. As a result, there is no higher quality or standard of consultant that your insurance company could demand.

List allocations for individual consultants are only confirmed the week before the date of surgery, therefore it can be difficult to name with certainty the individual anaesthetist allocated for your surgery.
